US Conference of Catholic Bishops Issues Guidelines for Unionization in Catholic Hosptials
June 22, 2009
On June 22, 2009, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) released a set of “non-binding“ guidelines that are intended to promote a “fair process” for workers in Catholic health care organizations to decide whether or not to be represented by a union. The guidelines are entitled “Respecting the Just Rights of Workers: Guidance and Options for Catholic Health Care and Unions,” and they represent over ten years of dialogue between members of a USCCB subcommittee on Catholic Health Care and Work.
