The presence of a union between management and one or more groups of employees often increases conflict, garbles communication and complicates decision-making. Managers and Supervisors must understand and consistently administer all contract provisions while sometimes also managing non-union staff within the same or neighboring departments. Those in leadership must accomplish this while also attempting to overcome or neutralize the adversarial relationship often promoted by unions. Finally, members of leadership need to learn how to deal with and overcome the limitations created by union contracts on performance-motivating rewards and teamwork.
Chessboard Consulting provides a series of leadership workshops designed to assist front-line supervisors and middle-level managers in dealing with the complexities unions create. Each session lasts approximately three hours and provides practical advice and experiential practice in leadership techniques within a unionized environment.
